Suggestions for Picking Your Materials:

      • When picking out your beads have in mind whether you would like a pendant or if you would like the necklace to have the same pattern throughout.
      • If you would like a pendant, select the pendant piece first.  This is most often the largest piece of your necklace and will be the main focus.
      • After you have picked a centerpiece, pick a strand of beads that compliment the focal bead.
      • After you have picked the strand of complimentary beads, select a few individual beads to add to the design.
      • At this point you are ready to add any silver or gold spacers for accents.
      • After you have picked all of the beads, you will be ready to pick out your clasp.  You can pick from magnetic, lobster, hook and eye, spring clasp, toggle, and “s” hook. If you are unsure which would be best for your beads just ask.

Celtic Spirals Cuff Bracelet

Wire Working 107 - Celtic Spirals Cuff Bracelet
Price - $25

Description:

You can wire wrap almost any kind of stone to make a pendant.  When you are starting out it will be easier for you to use smooth, regular shaped stones.  They can be either drilled (have a hole through them) or undrilled (cabochons.)
Later on if you want to, you can use the skills you learn in this class to wrap a larger stone that you found on a walk in the Grand Canyon or someplace really neat like that.
Materials for the pendant:

  • a larger stone, at least 35mm long, that really appeals to you
  • a spool of 18g Beadcraft copper wire, natural color, tarnish resistant
  • a spool of 22g Beadcraft copper wire, natural color, tarnish resistant
  • 3mm round copper beads- 3-5 for your pendant, more for your necklace

Suggestions for your first project:

Use copper wire for your first pendant.  When you feel confident enough, branch out into using silver or gold wire.  Copper wire is much more forgiving of multiple bendings when you change your mind.  Silver and gold are more brittle and break after the third bend.  18g and 22g copper wire can be used for all sorts of projects and are a good material to keep in your beading toolbox.  For instance, using your Thing A Ma Jig, you can make ear hooks from the 22g wire.
